Offering The Prayer

There are generally two types of major Eid events that happen in Dubai: EID-UL-FITR and EID-AL-ADHA. You can offer the prayer alone, but if you are with your family, an elder must lead the prayer as an Imam. Eid prayers are almost the same whether you perform them in your home or mosque. The only difference is that there is no Khutba or sermon at home. And when you offer the prayer alone, you are your own Imam.

Now, let’s learn it quickly by following the steps carefully.

  • Usually, Eid prayers have two rak’ahs or parts with some extra takbeers. First, start the prayer by making the intention in your heart without saying anything. Then you can say the first takbeer- Allahu Akbar. If you want to tell the opening supplication, you can; it is optional. Then, complete the six more takbeers after the Imam completes.
  • When the Imam says each takbeer, raise your hand and say ‘subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wala ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar’. Then fold your arms across your body and listen to the Imam reciting the Surah Al Fatihah and one more surah.
  • Then, say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and do the ‘Rukua’ or a bowing position. Up next, on the saying of ‘Sami Allahu liman Hamidah,’ you’ve to stand straight again and say ‘Rabbana lakal Hamd.’ Then, when you hear the Imam saying ‘Allahu Akbar,’ you’ve to do two sujuds (prostration). After completing it, your first rak’ah is over. You can rise now at the calling of Allahu Akbar.
  • At your second rak’ah, you have to say five takbeers. And have to imitate the Imam by repeating his calls and actions. In the middle of your takbeers you should say ‘Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wala ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar’.
  • After completing the takbeers, you should listen to the Imam’s recitation of the Surah Al Fatihah and another surah. After that, follow the same procedure as before for Rukia and sujuds. Once you’ve done this, you’ll see the Imam say, ‘Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah,’ and then he’ll turn his head from his right shoulder to his left. Just follow the Imam and your prayer is complete.
